Type Locality and Naming

Mid-South Sichuan. The Shengou Fm was named in 1965 by the Southwest Geological Institute, Ministry of Geology. The type section is in Xiaoshengou, Dengxiangying, Xide County, Sichuan Province. It is the uppermost formation within the Mesoproterozoic portion of the Dengxiangying Gr.

Synonym: (深沟组)


Lithology and Thickness

Lower part is composed of interbedding of grey-white quartzite, metamorphosed quartz sandstone with minor sericite phyllite. Upper part is grey sericite phyllite with minor meta sandstone. The formation 1000-1400 m thick.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The base is in conformable contact with underlying Songlinping Fm (lowermost formation within the Dengxiangying Gr).

Upper contact

The top is conformably or disconformably overlain by the Zegu Fm.

Regional extent

Mid-South Sichuan. Xide County, Sichuan Province.
